How to Understand Golf Shaft Trimming Charts - Hireko Golf
This short tutorial will explain why and where we trim a golf shaft, where to find the trimming instructions and well as how to interpret the charts and cut both steel and graphite shafts the correct way.
Everything you need to know for proper shaft trimming is included here. Each shaft in the catalog has a Shaft Trim Code listed. Consult the chart on the following page to determine how much to trim off the shaft. Unless noted, all directions are for TIP trimming. After tip trimming, trim to playing length from the butt.
NOTE 1: If the golfer being fit with any of the above shafts has a stronger Transition and faster Tempo, use Chart A. NOTE 2: Use the 5-wood tip trim for the 730CL Long Fairway Wood; Use the 9 wood tip trim for the 730CL High Fairway Wood.

Below are all the shaft trimming charts to the golf shafts that Hireko sells. To know which chart to use, consult the shaft on the product or catalog page. Note some shafts are combination flex and you will need to choose which flex you want to tip trim the shaft.

Once you have your trim code designation and note, proceed to the trimming chart that follows to determine the trimming values for the shaft. After tip trimming (if any), trim the butt end to the desired playing length. Lengths are found on pages 15-16 of this guide.
Blind Bore - add 1/4” to trimming instruction. Standard Bore - add 1” to trimming instruction. (3) For hi-loft utility woods (8-15) - do not tip trim more than stated for the 7 - wood due to the lack of parallel tip section. (4) Hosels with bore depths greater than 2”, we recommend blind boring the shaft in the hosel 1 3/4”.
