Dec 21, 2020 · Trying to get the balance right between flame size and pan spacing to avoid flare-up only gets harder with pellets. I think that's why wood chunks with a flat face resting down on a pan is the way to go with these propane smokers (unless you use an AMNPS or other method that completely separates the propane heating flame from the smoking source.)

Jan 9, 2017 · The venturi unit comes predrilled with a # 61 orifice which they state is for high pressure propane and comes in several diameters . The size of the pipe is 3/4 black gas pipe , I measured inside of my vertical smokehouse and made sure burners stayed six inches from the sides for saftey , and just built it to those dimensions .

This summer I am going to build a UDS when I have time I have gathered all of the materials needed. The one I use the least is the propane Smoke Hollow, I am sure it is just me but I don't care for it.
Using propane burner to power a LARGE smoker
Oct 21, 2011 · Does anyone use a propane burner with burn plate on a LARGER smoker. Similar to a 500 gal tank? I'm thinking it would all come down to the BTUs of the burner. I'm considering a larger tank for my first build and nice wood is limited in my area. Propane is not. I can really step it up with the size of the burner (they are sold everywhere here).
