Outdoor fireplace to Smoker/Pizza oven? Am I crazy?
Jul 16, 2011 · With an outdoor fireplace like that I would simply use it as a grill without much modification. A black pizza oven requires a good amount of thermal mass and insulation, top sides and bottom hearth to be effective and to be able to cook with its residual heat for 3 days after initial firing.

The build sits inside the footer approx. 6in. all the way around to help with stability. Also on this footing is a outdoor fireplace. I'll note that I also did a double run of 1/2in. rebar in the footing when poured.

I did set an outdoor fireplace chimney over the exhaust vent this morning to pull a better draft, as well as bend the tabs on the lower intake vents and fully closed those. I'm in the middle of a seperated flat & point brisky smoke right now.

Apr 2, 2011 · Dan, I only saw one inlet and no damper. Best I can see is the fire and smoke comes from the main fireplace. This is an 1800's one about 6 feet wide and 5 feet tall like the one the pilgrims used to cook with cast iron pots and pans that swing into the fire (coals). I'll get more pictures and do a smoke test. were passing papers this week.
