That way as you do sweeps & scales it will help. You'll get the hang of it, there is no wrong way to set-up action on a guitar, just as long as it works for you.

Edit: If you really want to be accurate, get a set of feeler gauges. You can make at least 90% of the adjustments you'll ever need using a $4 set of automotive feeler gauges. Stewmac do-it-all miracle tools are for n00bs.

Dec 4, 2016 · You cant trust the frets when making a relief adjustment either. On a used instrument, the first few frets may gotten grooves from playing open chords. If those first few frets were doctored and re-crowned without leveling the rest at the same time, the frets in the center of the neck may be high which makes it appear like a relief problem but ...

Feb 23, 2006 · I do the exact same thing. I also do this quite a bit for playing leads. My bridge pup is really bright sounding on its own, so adding a little neck in helps. Its like a meatier, fatter version of the bridge pup sound.
