Of all of the exciting opportunities available in the RAF Air Cadets, marksmanship training and shooting are always some of the most popular with cadets and volunteers alike. Learning how to handle and safely fire weapons requires concentration, self-discipline and attention to detail.
Shooting - 1192 (KIRKCALDY) SQUADRON RAF AIR CADETS
All shooting activities in the RAFAC are conducted by staff who hold range management qualifications issued by the Small Arms School Corps. Most cadets will receive their first marksmanship training on an air rifle due to their light weight and low recoil. Air rifles are usually Squadron purchased items and types can vary from unit to unit.

To start with you'll be firing at targets that are fairly close - around 25m away. As you advance through weapons and your skill builds, you will fire at targets 100m or more away. Archery is also available to all our cadets, our qualified instructors offer regular archery practice.

Shooting – DNW RAF Air Cadets
RAF Air Cadets use three different rifles: the No. 8, L98A2 Cadet GP Rifle and the L81A2 Cadet Target Rifle. Cadets begin by shooting at distances of 25 metres, and can advance to distances of up to 1,000 yards! In addition, Cadets can take part in shotgun shooting.
339 (South Dartmoor) Squadron
Air rifles allow the introduction of target shooting to cadets on ranges where ranges for small bore and full bore are not possible. After training and weapons handling tests are conducted enrolled cadets can conduct live firing on the air rifle.
