Storm Bert is set to strike the UK - with snow, rain and strong winds expected to cause travel disruption and potential flooding.

A Storm Bert amber warning for snow has been extended in Scotland to cover the Borders, Dumfries and Galloway, East Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire. The Met Office alert was already in place for parts of the Highlands,

Snow, rain and strong winds are starting to disrupt travel plans as Storm Bert hits the UK. Several weather warnings are in place, while 16 flood alerts have been issued - warning flooding is possible - in England and Scotland.

Winds of up to 68mph have been recorded and 13cm of snow has landed in some parts of the country on Saturday morning.

An amber alert for heavy snow and ice is in force between 7am and 5pm on Saturday in areas across the country.

Most of the UK is affected by yellow warnings for either wind, rain or snow, with a slightly more severe amber warning covering parts of northern England and central Scotland.
