The WHO released more information about the outbreak of Disease X in the DRC. Mainly affected children, the cause remains unknown.

Disease X emerged at a time of increased influenza circulation, and is likely to be linked to airborne diseases, according to Congo’s National Public Health Institute. The illness may not manifest in the same way in other places with different pre-existing health.

More cases of a mysterious flu-like illness labeled “Disease X” were reported in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the World Health Organization has dispatched a rapid response team to help investigate.
