First-time buyers will have to pay stamp duty on homes worth more than £300,000, down from £425,000. They also won't get relief on properties worth more than £500,000, down from £625,000.

Strikes by train managers at Avanti West Coast planned over Christmas have been suspended. Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union were due to walk out on 22, 23 and 29 December.
