Like many US corporations, Walmart – which is the country's biggest single employer with a workforce of around 2.1m – launched many new diversity programs in the wake of the George Floyd protests in May and June 2020.

Conservative pundit and prominent anti-DEI activist Robby Starbuck took credit for the changes, claiming this was the biggest win for his movement to “end wokeness in corporate America.”

Walmart is rolling back its diversity, equity and inclusion policies, joining a growing list of major corporations doing the same after coming under attack by conservative activists.
