The powerful storms that moved through the Bay Area have now claimed two lives in Sonoma County.Police say a driver died Saturday morning after they attempted to drive through a flooded road in Guerneville.

On Friday at 3 a.m. an updated flood warning was issued by the NWS San Francisco CA valid from Friday 9 p.m. until further notice.

While the weather on Saturday offered a break from recent rains, Sonoma County is still having to contend with flooded driveways, fields, and grounds soaked in water, and flooded roadways.

Parts of Sonoma County were hit by as much as 15 inches of rain, with Occidental getting more than 20 inches. Much of the runoff will make its way down to the Russian River from it massive 1500 square mile drainage area.

A person has died after being submerged in a vehicle in floodwater near Highway 116 and Mays Canyon Road in Guerneville, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office. At 11:29 a.m. on Saturday, the sheriff’s office was informed of a person trapped in a vehicle that was in floodwater in Guerneville.

Two people have now died as severe floodwaters hit Sonoma County, KTVU has confirmed. This comes as an atmospheric river has been dumping water on the West Coast.
