Iskcon has remained in the headlines since the arrest of its former member Chinmoy Krishna Das last week on sedition charges in Bangladesh. The religious organisation’s spokesperson in Kolkata has claimed at least three other Hindu monks have been arrested by the Bangladesh police.

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is struggling in Bangladesh after the arrest of its former member, Chinmoy Krishna Das. Das was arrested on sedition charges, triggering protests and clashes with security forces. The Hindu community has been worst hit by the development.

Amid growing tensions, dozens of ISKCON members have been denied permission to cross into India by Bangladesh Immigration despite valid passports and visas.

The authorities cited "suspicious travel" as the reason for their refusal, although the ISKCON monks were not provided with clear explanations.

On Friday, a Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson said India has conveyed its concern over the attacks on Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh and pressed for a “fair and transparent trial” for Chinmoy Krishna Das.

Iskcon spokesperson Radharamn Das said on Monday that Advocate Ramen Roy, who had represented Bangladeshi Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu in a legal case, was brutally assaulted in Bangladesh and is now hospitalised in critical condition.

The only lawyer ready to defend Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, the Hindu priest arrested and accused of sedition in Bangladesh, has been attacked, the ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) has said.

On December 2, Bangladeshi Hindus in Canada organized a protest over the arrest of ISKCON priest Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh. The arrest was made on charges of sedition after Das allegedly raised a flag on a stand displaying Bangladesh’s national flag.
