Tensions between India and Bangladesh have intensified following attacks on Hindu temples and the arrest of a Hindu priest in Bangladesh.

Amid ongoing violence against Hindus and other minorities, a violent Islamist mob on Friday (29 November) attacked and vandalised three Hindu temples in Bangladesh's Chattogram. The port city has recently seen protests and unrest following arrest of a former ISKCON member and Hindu Monk Chinmoy Krishna Das.

They started shouting anti-Hindu and anti-ISKCON slogans." Chattogram has been witnessing protests and violence since a former ISKCON member, Chinmoy Krishna Das, was arrested and sent to jail for allegedly disrespecting the national flag.

Kotwali Police Station chief Abdul Karim confirmed the attack, saying that assailants attempted to damage the temples

Animosity towards Hindus in Bangladesh seems to have been going on for some time. In 2021, mob attacks during and after the Hindu festival of Durga Puja prompted human rights group Amnesty International to say that the Bangladesh state has, over the years, "failed in its duty to protect minorities".

As India-Bangladesh tensions over atrocities against Hindus escalate, the neighbouring country has intensified its crackdown on the minority community with more vandalisation of temples, freezing of bank accounts of ISKCON-related persons,
