The finalists were just announced for the North American Car, Truck and Utility of the year. The full-size Ram 1500 will compete with the midsize Ford Ranger for the prestigious title.

The hardcore Ranger looks seriously beefed up to withstand the abuse and tackle the jobs expected of the Super Duty name.

The Ranger Super Duty will "deliver next-level, work-ready capability to serve the toughest customers", but only in Australia.

Emphasis here is on Ford of Australia, because this truck is destined to be sold in the land down under. We double-checked with Ford concerning U.S. availability, and a spokesperson told Road & Track that “there are no current plans to offer Ranger Super Duty in North America.
