Nuno Matos will become chief executive officer at ANZ Group Holdings Ltd., succeeding Shayne Elliott who is retiring after nine years in the role that culminated in a tumultuous ending.

By Scott Murdoch and Himanshi Akhand SYDNEY (Reuters) -Australian lender ANZ Group said on Monday it had appointed former HSBC executive Nuno Matos as its next CEO, replacing Shayne Elliott, who is set to retire in July 2025 after nine years in the role.

The succession means three of the country’s four major banks will have appointed new chief executives this year. The Portuguese banker will start on July 3.

He’s mad about sports, including tennis and legend Rafael Nadal, but when it comes to the high-octane world of banking incoming ANZ chief executive Nuno Matos is described as a keen adopter of technology and “very focused”.

Matos, a seasoned banker with over three decades of global experience, has led retail, wholesale, and commercial operations across multiple markets.
