In the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Machar had a population of 969 living in 459 of its 875 total private dwellings, a change of 9.9% from its 2016 population of 882. With a land area of 182.65 km², it had a population density of 5.3/km² in 2021.
