Nov 18, 2016 · Thunderbolt 1/2 and mini Display Port share the same connector. Thunderbolt 3 doesn't support USB-C Display Port Alternate Mode and USB-C doesn't support Thunderbolt 2, but Thunderbolt 3 does support Thunderbolt 2. If you want to drive a Thunderbolt 1/2 display, you have to use a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 1/2 dongle, anything else won't work.

Jul 20, 2011 · I've tried the Apple adapter and CableMatters adapter. They both communicate with my Thunderbolt 2 eGPU enclosure. There's video output to an external display through the eGPU. However, there's no acceleration or Metal support which makes it useless atm in macOS. Once there are more Thunderbolt 3 enclosures available, that may change.

The Transfer is now saying it will transfer in 18 hours and is going up. I swapped out the Ethernet cable with a Cross over cable and Directly connected them.

Just using the cable you have you can connect to a Thunderbolt 2 device with a female connector.
