India will retain curbs on investment from nations with which it shares a land border, the finance minister said days after the South Asian country struck a pact with China on patrolling their disputed Himalayan frontier.

China and India reached a deal over their disputed Himalayan border to help defuse a four-year military standoff marked by violent skirmishes. The pact between the world’s two most populous countries — in which both sides agreed to alternately patrol contested areas to ensure no border violations — came just ahead of the BRICS summit in Russia.

Vikram Misri said on Monday the two sides have agreed on “disengagement and resolution of issues in these [border] areas that had arisen in 2020”.

The agreement, announced by India’s foreign secretary, marks a major thaw four years after bloody clashes between soldiers on the border tanked bilateral relations.
