Michael Newman, who played lifeguard Mike “Newmie” Newman on “Baywatch,” has died. He was 68. Newman passed away 18 years after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. The news was confirmed Tuesday by Newman’s close friend, Matt Felker, who recently directed the Hulu docuseries about “Baywatch.”

He started out on the David Hasselhoff series as a stuntman and technical adviser and stuck around for 10 seasons.

Baywatch welcomed a number of actors throughout its eleven-season run, one of which was Michael Newman. The franchise alum played a version of himself on the show and ultimately became one of the stalwart members of the cast.
