Gov. Greg Gianforte, the Montana Department of Livestock and Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks are suing the Biden administration over Yellowstone National Park'

A long-simmering battle between Yellowstone National Park officials and the Gianforte administration in Montana came to a head on Tuesday with state officials suing the park in federal court for its bison management plan.

The bison plan was finalized in 2024 amid protests from the Gianforte administration, first outlined in a 17-page letter in 2023.

During this time of year, visitors are still told to bring a can of bear spray, even if bears are hibernating. There are other threats at Yellowstone National Park, including dangerous animals like cougars.

Montana is suing Yellowstone National Park over a plan to increase the number of bison in and around the park and establish greater tolerance for their presence outside its boundaries.
