“ Saturday Night Live ” creator and producer Lorne Michaels is speaking out on his recent show regrets.

"You haven’t seen what we’re going to do, and what I’m going to try to bring out in him, because I thought he was the real thing," Michaels remembered thinking.

"Obviously I was not on that side, but I understood it," the "Saturday Night Live" creator said of the network's move.

Gillis never made it to the SNL cast after online comments surfaced where he used a racial slur against Asians. In a statement at the time, Michaels, via a spokesperson said “after talking with Shane Gillis, we have decided that he will not be joining SNL.”

Lorne Michaels told The Wall Street Journal that he was “angry” when Shane Gillis got fired from “Saturday Night Live” in 2019 after offensive jokes he made on a podcast resurfaced online, including ones with racial slurs about Asian people.
