Nearly 40 years later, St. Elmo’s Fire is continuing to burn bright for its stars. After first teasing a sequel in July, Rob Lowe recently gave an update that the followup to the 1985 coming-of-age film is “moving along” as he and co-star Demi Moore are in contact about the film.

Before Lowe could answer, Ripa then asked about the Brat Pack—a group of young stars in the 1980s that included Lowe, Moore, Ally Sheedy, Molly Ringwald, Kevin Bacon, Matthew Broderick, and more—in general, asking, "Did you all date each other? Was it like, just—was it a big romp?”

Lowe reflects on when he and Moore were among the up-and-coming, young ‘Brat Pack’ stars in the classic, 1980s coming-of-age drama, ‘St. Elmo’s fire.’

Decades later, Lowe says he still keeps in touch with Moore, and they are in a group chat exploring a possible St. Elmo’s Fire sequel. According to the star, the entire case is on board. “It’s going a little more slowly than I would have liked, but that’s a good thing because we’re trying to find the right writer and the right story," he shared.

Lowe and Moore, who were both famously considered part of the “ Brat Pack ” of young Hollywood stars in the ’80s, also costarred in 1985’s St. Elmo’s Fire. During their conversation about the film, Ripa, 54, once again brought up Moore, 61.
