A food poisoning outbreak tied to McDonald’s Quarter Pounders was caused by a common type of E. coli bacteria that can cause serious illness and death. Particularly vulnerable are young children, older people or those with weakened immune systems.

At least 49 cases of E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounders across multiple states have been reported and one person has died, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said.

One person died and 10 were hospitalized in an E. coli outbreak in ten states, which health officials linked to the McDonald’s burgers.

Forty-nine people from 10 states have been sickened, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The CDC is investigating an E. coli outbreak that has sickened 49 people in 10 states, including one person who has died.

Chipotle lost billions of dollars in market cap following a series of foodborne-illness outbreaks almost a decade ago. But so far the McDonald’s situation seems more contained.
